In a world filled with constant reminders about the importance of mindset, it’s easy to become frustrated by clichés and empty phrases like “think positive” or “visualize success.” They oversimplify the complexity of our experiences and emotions. It can feel dismissive and unrealistic. It can make us question if we’re doing something wrong or if there’s something wrong with us. The frustration comes from the gap between these simplistic platitudes and the messy reality of our lives, where true personal growth and success require much more than just positive thinking.

When you succeed, when things flow to you easily, when you feel confident, and strong; you have a good mindset! But you are not necessarily aware of it. Because you just keep winning, so you don’t really question it. But when you feel beaten down by life, when you fail, frustrated, when you are disappointed, people are telling you that you are not in the right mindset! No kidding!!! Don’t you think I know that! Everything sucks!

It’s time to dive deeper into the concept of mindset and explore how it can truly shape our lives. In this article, we will explore the transformation from a negative to a positive mindset and discover how it can be the catalyst for personal growth and success.

This article addresses one of the key topics featured in the no-bullshit guide to creating success and fulfillment in life and business, where you’ll uncover the 3-part formula to design and live a more rewarding life. Transforming Mindset for Personal Growth and Success - when all else fails

Your mindset defines your behavior

Research shows that our mindset is the lens through which we perceive the world and ourselves. Two prominent mindsets emerge: the fixed mindset and the growth mindset. The fixed mindset holds us back, making us believe that our fate is sealed and we cannot change our circumstances. On the other hand, the growth mindset empowers us by acknowledging that abilities and intelligence can be developed through effort, dedication, and learning. It embraces challenges, sees failures as opportunities for growth, and values continuous improvement.

Imagine having a garden and dreaming about having roses. With a growth mindset, you recognize the potential in the seeds. You understand that with care, attention, and nurturing, those seeds can blossom into magnificent roses. Even if the plant initially struggles, it’s not viewed as a failure but as a chance to adjust your approach, learn from the experience, and make necessary changes for the future.

In contrast, a fixed mindset would discourage us from even planting the seeds, believing that the rose can’t grow here, so actually, you don’t even buy the seed. That would be a waste of time and energy. You don’t make any effort and also don’t explore different strategies. It will not work, period.

"People don't go after what they want but after what they can get”

The belief that something is unattainable often becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy. When I embarked on my journey of traveling the world, I wondered if it was possible to do work I loved while maintaining this lifestyle. I made a conscious choice to believe it was achievable. I immersed myself in defining my ideal life, identifying the intersection of my strengths, passions, and market needs. And I worked my *ss off to grow my business. As I write this article from a bungalow on the shores of Montanita, Ecuador, between surf sessions, I can confidently say that my commitment to the process paid off.

By committing to the process, I not only achieved results but also proved to myself that I was not delusional. This created a virtuous circle of increased confidence and empowerment. It all started with believing that something was possible and then taking consistent action to turn that belief into reality.

When you are stuck in a negative mindset

But the path to success hasn’t been without holes and detours. I worked 60h weeks, invested all my money in myself (scary!), and nearly burnt out a few times. That’s usually what you don’t see on Instagram, but the reality of entrepreneurship! I’m not afraid to share, it’s part of the game, and every entrepreneur knows… no need to pretend that for me it is not different!

When you find yourself in a low state, overwhelmed by doubts and fears, it’s natural to feel discouraged and allow negativity to consume your thoughts. Pretending that everything will miraculously be alright is the last thing you want to do because, deep down, you know it’s not that simple. This is when the negative spiral begins. One negative thought feeds into another, trapping you in a cycle of complaints and diminishing your motivation. It’s like planting a seed in a garden and questioning its purpose—what’s the point? You feel a sense of helplessness as if you’re stuck in quicksand, unable to break free.

At this pivotal moment, we have a choice. We can allow negative thoughts to consume us, leading to a downward spiral of complaints and hopelessness. Alternatively, we can recognize this as an opportunity for growth and take action to reverse the narrative.

3 steps to take back control

When facing adversity, it’s crucial to approach it with determination. Here’s a framework that empowers you to take back control and bounce into a positive mindset:

1. Be Real

Instead of suppressing your thoughts, acknowledge the negative ones. Embrace your fixed mindset and understand that limitations are merely stepping stones towards growth. Do not pretend; by recognizing your perceived barriers, you lay the foundation for transformative change.
Dare to ask yourself: Where am I at right now? Am I choosing complaint or willingness as my energy?

2. Be Open

When negativity clouds your mind, remind yourself that it hasn’t manifested “yet.” Empower your perspective by using the word “yet” as a catalyst for possibility. Challenge yourself with this question: If I believed it was possible, what would I do differently? Try and open yourself to explore new horizons with audacity.

3. Be Committed

Shift your focus from fixating on the end result to fully immersing yourself in the process. What would your future self six months from now wish you had started today? Instead of visualizing the outcome, envision yourself passionately engaged in the work, embracing every challenge, and discovering profound joy in making efforts.

In a Nutshell

In the pursuit of a positive mindset, it’s important to acknowledge that setbacks and negative moments are inevitable. We are all susceptible to temporary lapses into fixed mindsets. However, it’s our ability to respond and bounce back that truly defines our journey.

Surrounding ourselves with positive and empowering individuals is crucial to maintain a growth mindset. As Jim Rohn said, “You are the average of the five people you spend the most time with.” Seek out those who uplift and inspire you, and together, you can cultivate a mindset that propels you forward.

Remember, mastering mindset is a continuous cycle. By acknowledging when you have a fixed mindset, believing in the possibility of growth, and focusing on the journey rather than just the outcome, you truly set yourself up for success.

The Art of Letting Go
